REPORT: Vikings showing interest in Redskins Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams

By most accounts, this year's free agency period has left quite a bit to be desired for fans of the Minnesota Vikings. To say the very least, we've seen many more players leaving the organization than coming to it.

Really, this shouldn't be much of a surprise given the team's present salary cap situation. Presently sitting with somewhere around $10 million in cap space the Vikings have needs on both sides of the ball still to address.

So might they be interested in filling some of those voids through trade rather than free agency?

According to John Keim of ESPN.com, the Vikings have showed interest in trading for embattled Pro Bowler, LT Trent Williams from the Washington Redskins.

Williams, who was given permission to seek a trade away from Washington, held out for the entirety of the 2019 season upset over the handling of medical treatment from the team in regards to a cancerous growth on his head. It has also been reported that the Redskins are seeking 2nd round pick value in return for Williams but that could potentially be negotiated down if a partner is found.

If the Vikings went this route they would likely need to clear even more cap space to cover William's $14.5 million for 2020. They could do that by either cutting ties with current LT Riley Reiff, recouping $8.8 million in cap space or trading franchised safety Anthony Harris.

It may still be a long-shot for the cap strapped Vikings but it would be the first big move they've made since the new year began earlier this month.
