(Brooklyn Park, MN) -- A manhunt is underway in Minnesota for 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter, who is suspected in the shootings of two state lawmakers and their spouses early Saturday.
State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed at their home in Brooklyn Park.
State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were shot multiple times and seriously injured at their home in Champlin. Both Hoffman and his wife are expected to survive.
The shootings are believed to be politically motivated, according to Governor Tim Walz, who describes the shootings as an act of targeted political violence.. Walz says he is cautiously optimistic for the recovery of Senator Hoffman and his wife.
The suspect, Boelter, is accused of impersonating a police officer during the attacks.
The Minnesota State Patrol reports finding a list of potential targets in Boelter's car which includes more than political figures.
Boelter, whose background includes CEO of a security services company, was previously appointed to Minnesota Workforce boards and councils by Governors Walz and Dayton.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is distributing photos of Boelter and asking the public for help locating him.
In addition, the FBI has now offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to Boelter's arrest, and has released a security camera photo they say shows Boelter wearing a rubber face mask as he approaches the door of one of the homes early Saturday morning dressed as an officer (below).
An hours-long manhunt in Brooklyn Park Saturday failed to locate Boelter. A shelter in place order for people in Brooklyn Park has been lifted.
Security measures have been heightened for those named on the suspect's list, including Governor Walz and U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar.
President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation and condemned the violence. As the manhunt continues, The Minnesota Department of Public Safety urges the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Boelter.
