Dan Beyer & Monse Bolaños step in for Covino & Rich today and they address the profanity-laced “inspirational” halftime speech given by St. John’s Men’s Head Basketball Coach Rick Pitino. While coaching philosophies have changes in recent years to a softer and gentler approach, both Dan and Monse applaud Pitino for using an effective, old-school approach to motivating his team.
Dan Beyer: “90-95% of the feedback and the stuff that I have read; everybody is on board with what that is, and that’s coaching.”
Monse Bolaños: “...That intensity, the yelling, the get your head out of you’re a$$ talk definitely was something I was very familiar with, with my coaches in high school and my club team. And I just feel like I’ve heard that it’s not really like that. So I feel like for me it was more a breath of fresh air that that’s still going on.”
